Monday Market Must-Knows: September 11, 2023
How Will Lagarde's Remarks Affect Euro Trading?
In the upcoming trading week, there are several key points to focus on. First, there are 255 companies reporting earnings, with Oracle being the major one on Monday. While there are international companies reporting, their reporting patterns are inconsistent.
For those trading the Euro, it's important to note that Christine Lagarde, the President of the ECB, will make statements at an ECB press conference on Thursday at 8:45 AM Eastern Time. These statements could impact various financial markets, especially in the Euro, as they may touch on foreign policy, domestic policy, interest rates, and cryptocurrencies.
In the United States, there are concerns about inflation. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers are due on Wednesday at 8:30 AM Eastern Time, and recent upticks in core PCE price index numbers have raised speculation about CPI increasing. On Thursday at the same time, the Producer Price Index (PPI) will also be released, showing a different trajectory. The year-over-year CPI has been rising, reaching 3.2 percent, prompting discussions about its implications for the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions at the upcoming FOMC meeting on September 20th.
And if that’s not enough, keep an eye on U.S. retail sales data, which has shown a slight uptrend over the past six months. This data will be released on Thursday at 8:30 AM Eastern Time. Overall, it's an eventful week for domestic markets with CPI, PPI, retail sales, and manufacturing data, while the Euro market could be affected by the ECB press conference.
