The Way of the Warrior Will Change Your Life

I recently read a wonderful book that was written in a fable format that was gifted to me by Todd Coe for Christmas. Without giving up the story, which was very well written, there were some amazing life lessons that were communicated in this book that I thought I would share with you. In addition, the book, “Think Like a Warrior; The 5 inner beliefs that make you unstoppable,” is a book that all of you should read sooner than later.

Conceptually, the book follows a struggling collegiate football coach who has the opportunity to meet, and speak with 5 very famous, and post-humous coaches. They impart 5 significant lessons on him, and it changes his life forever. These lessons, though out of context from the fable, are now on a card that I carry with me and read every day. This book had such an impact on me, that I created these cards for Todd, Michael, Craig, and myself. When you see any of us, ask us for one of these cards to carry yourself, and you should read it every day.

Here are the 5 inner beliefs:

  1. I focus on only the things I have control over – My effort and my abilities.
  2. I love what I do, and I attack each day with joy and enthusiasm.
  3. I dream big and I ignore the naysayers.
  4. I am relentless, and I will NEVER give up on my dreams.
  5. I choose faith over fear.

Each day, before I start my day, I read this card. Of course, having the full context of the Warrior story comes rushing back to me every morning when I read this, and there are many more valuable lessons you can glean from the book. But this goofy, little card gets my head right for my day ahead, every day, regardless of what I have to face. People often ask me; “Hey Mark, how is it that you are in such a great mood every single day?” My response is always the same…It is because I choose to be!

We have the most amazing opportunity in the world to enrich the lives of the people around us each day. Not just the people that respond to our advertising…our families, employees, friends, and peers.  If you had a choice every day to have a positive, and impactful interaction with everyone you touched, versus a negative or uneventful experience with those same people, what would you choose?

For me, I choose to think like a warrior! I choose to enrich your lives, my co-workers’ lives, and your employees lives. By making this choice, they then enrich their family’s lives, and so on…and so on…and so on! (Read “The Butterfly Effect” …but that’s a book for another day!).

Life, my friends, is too short to not love what you do, every single day. Life is too short to not make a positive impact on everyone that touch. Life, can be brutal, but it is much easier to face it and conquer it, when you think like a “Warrior!”
