Monday Market Must-Knows: December 19, 2022

The past week we saw a sell-off in the markets due to Jerome Powell's comments about a potential recession. We don't know which way that's going to go but we know it created some great opportunities last week and maybe this week we'll get some as well.

Announcements to look for this week:
• Final GDP number: Thursday – 8:30am EST
We will see the release of the final GDP number, which is expected to be 2.9%. The markets may react positively if this number is higher as it could signal that the Fed will slow down on interest rate increases.
• Core PCE price index: Friday – 8:30am EST
Jerome Powell has emphasized the importance of the core PCE price index, which measures inflation. This index has been steadily increasing, but it is expected to level off in the coming months.

This coming week we will see 390 companies reporting earnings, including Carnival Cruise Lines, FedEx, General Mills, Blackberry, Nike, Micron Technologies, Cintas, Paychex, and CarMax.

As always, if you’re in the markets, make sure you have a trade plan.
