Monday Market Must-Knows: April 24, 2023

How does inflation affect the Federal Reserve?

Inflation data is critical as it will influence the Federal Reserve's decision-making at their meeting on May 3rd. If inflation remains under control, the Fed may adjust their interest-raising plans, resulting in a positive market reaction.

The Core PCE price index, representing inflation, is being released on Friday, and could create significant swings in the financial markets.

Also, the US economy is in focus this week as important economic data is being released. The advanced Gross Domestic Product (GDP) number, which represents the expectations for GDP growth for the quarter, is coming out on Thursday, April 27th at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The previous GDP number was 2.6%, but the expectation for Thursday's read is only 2%, which could cause market volatility.

Last week's trading lacked volatility despite many earnings reports and economic data releases. However, this week over 1,000 companies, including Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Google, General Electric, and Amazon, will report earnings, which should make things more exciting.
