Old Town Irvine can trace its roots back more than 100 years to 1887 when James Irvine II first invited the railroad to put a station on his ranch. The little town grew and became the shipping center for the world-wide distribution of the crops grown on the Irvine Ranch. The 125,000 acre ranch constituted the largest single ownership of urbanized land in Southern California. Today, Old Town Irvine is in the center of the Irvine Spectrum, a 2,20 acre master-planned center for research, technology, and business. In an extraordinary combination of past and present, La Quinta has helped bring new life back to Old Irvine. La Quinta now occupies the Granary building, a 1947 addition to the original Sack Warehouse built in 1895. following a vision that a granary could house people as well as Lima beans, the 32 hexagonal Lima bean silos were converted into a four-story 98 room hotel wing. The new Annex brings the total room count to 148, plus two meeting rooms. Framed in this history, each La Quinta guest room provides the most modern and comfortable furnishings and amenities. The Granary/Warehouse and Blacksmith Shops are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
