Consumer Spending Behavior, Retail Sales, Top Holiday Stock Picks from the Pros Illustrated in Latest Holiday Infographic from Global Trading Academy
Irvine, CA, December 9, 2013 - Online Trading Academy launched an infographic to demonstrate the Christmas Economy, showing retail sales
during the holiday season, as well as other holiday related costs.
In 2012, the average American spent $770 on holiday gifts. In 2013, it is expected that they will spend $786. For 2013, there is a $602.1 billion expected in
holiday sales, a 2.4 percent rise from 2012. On average, Americans spend $51 on holiday decorations, not including the purchase of the Christmas tree. Retailers
identified energy and fuel costs to have the greatest impact on holiday sales, with 25 percent of retailers believing this would be a contributing factor to holiday
sales. The stalled budget negotiations in Washington were the reason 29 percent of holiday shoppers said they planned to cut back on holiday shopping. For some
retailers, 20 to 40 percent of annual sales are reliant upon the holiday season.
Online Trading Academy also explored the Christmas tree industry; live versus artificial. The average cost of an artificial Christmas tree is $72.50, where the
average cost for a live tree is $40.30. Artificial trees are a $790 million industry with 10.9 million purchased each year. Online Trading Academy also illustrated
the cost of The Twelve Days of Christmas. If all of the items from the holiday song were purchased in current day America, it would cost $23,439.
Also included in the infographic are large-budget gifts the one percent are giving this year. The list includes a $30,000 commissioned biography, donating to
an elephant refuge in Thailand, and customized services such as life coaching. Online Trading Academy also illustrated in the infographic the top holiday stocks
of 2013, which included companies such as Deckers Outdoor Corporation, Carter’s, and Lbrands.
